John Hartmann III - Photographer

I first came to the Colorado plateau well into adulthood and I immediately felt a deep resonance with this landscape that I had never experienced before.  I felt more at home here than anywhere I’d ever been.  My photography since has primarliy been an attempt to understand my emotional response to and relationship with this area.

My preferred tool is a Chamonix 45F-2 4x5 film camera, a beautiful, elegant highly impractical, heavy, slow film camera designed two centuries ago, but whose large negatives provide unmatched detail.
